And then the next book in the trilogy POOF, they’re married?

War of the worlds

I’m not a fan of war books, but because of this masterpiece, it made a boring war story to a suspense one that’ll make you turn the pages non-stop! It really got me revved up.

I could see that Icemark people icrmark to be modelled after the Scandinavians, while Thyrrin’s mother’s peoples, the Hypollitan must have been based on the Amazons.

The Icemark Chronicles 1. I would recommend to people who like fantasy, adventure, and mystery. But, as someone who has slogged through Tolkien and who has a literary soft spot for brash girls, neither of those really bother me.

It was a nice change to read a book where the main character is not only a young female but one who is genuinely tough and who when forced to lead a nation does so from the front without having to ever become a victim or use her wily womanly charms. Many of the elements – the Oak and Holly Kings, Hill’s take on werewolves, the snow leopards – were truly original, as was Oskan’s gifts and personal history.

Icemark is a medieval fantasy with a more complex set of characters and a more complex vision of good and evil than much of the fantasy I read as a kid, and it all happens in a beautifully constructed world. Still, the idea to use as many cultures as possible is a good one, but please Mr.

What is the reading order for this series? Thirrin was the perfect young queen.

The Icemark Chronicles by Stuart Hill. Stuart says that his influences include H. Soon after, an army from the south begins to invade north towards Icemark hoping to overtake the small land and claim it as its own. Many battle scenes in fantasy books leave you lost so you end up gathering details like who got killed and so forth rather than being able to see what actually happened.

The Cry of the Icemark by Stuart Hill

Sep 07, Catherine Fitzsimmons rated it it was ok. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The characters were intriguing, and some of them likable, but they had absolutely no development. The Icemark is a kingdom in grave danger.

A companion of Thirrin in her quest ifemark save Icemark. Battle scenes are really good – the descriptions are very clear, and give you a great mental image, which is unique. The text in this book!

And she will lead her allies to victory with her fierce battle cry: The story o I really enjoyed this one. I guest you just have to read it to find out what happens.

Review: The Cry of the Icemark by Stuart Hill | Books | The Guardian

Hill’s writing is never over-earnest. The Polypontian Empire has conquered much of the known world in recent years, much thanks to its fearsome general, Scipio Bellorum. Thirrin Freer Strong-in-the-Arm Kcemark, a beautiful princess and an intrepid warrior, must find a way to protect her land from a terrible invasion.

The plot revolves around thirteen-year-old princess Thirrin Freer Strong-in-the-Arm Lindenshield, as she must fight to save her small home, the Icemark, from the invading Polypontian Empire.

Shortly after her 14th birthday, she is officially made heir to the throne in the case of her father’s death.
